FA Cup match preview: Chasetown v
Rothwell Town |

Saturday
27th September : kick off
3pm
FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round
|
|
| |
| The Bones
travel to last season's surprise non-league
team in the FA Cup tomorrow - Chasetown
- with the target to progress a place
in the 3rd Qualifying Round. Rothwell
have knocked out Hullbridge Sports
and Waltham Abbey to reach this round.
However, Martin Flannigan's winner
at Waltham Abbey is the only goal
the Bones have scored in the last
four games.
Manager Rob Dunion:
"Our issues have been the same
since day one. We've got strikers
capable of scoring 20-plus each. We
just haven't been able to put the
ball in the back of the net.
"They have been starved a little
of service in fairness to them. As
they say, a well-oiled car always
goes well."
"We might only get a few chances
tomorrow and we will need to take
them. We're definitely looking forward
to it."
Those wishing to make the trip, can
find travel details here.
Goalkeeper Tom Smith
and defender Danny Pownell
are unavailable. But youth-team pair
Chris Graham (defender)
and Michael Cerrelli
(midfield) have been called up to
get a taste of the magic of the FA
Cup.
Rothwell from: Malong,
Wilkinson, Hackett, Burrows, Glass,
R Koriya, F Koriya, Byrne, Difante,
Marlow, Maddox, Flannigan, Sneddon,

FA Youth Cup: RTFC 1 - 3 Cranfield
Utd |
Rothwell Town u18s
bowed out of the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday
after Cranfield Utd won 3-1 at Cecil
St.
Rothwell had a good first 10 minutes
before Cranfield started to dominate
possession with a strong experienced
midfield and centre halfs that stopped
Rothwell’s play and created
a lot of pressure on the Rothwell
defence.
Two goals in quick succession after
30 mins by Cranfield could have seen
an end to the tie but the youngsters
fought a spirited comeback in the
last 5 of the first half with a penalty
claim turned down on a goal line clearance.
The second half was
a different story, with it totally
dominated by Rothwell. After 15 mins,
Cranfield had a long range effort
that lobbed Liam Waddy against the
run of play.
However, the lads did not let the
3 -0 margin phase them and carried
on attacking with Callum Bowyer
finally pulling one back, followed
by another penalty appeal, hitting
the bar and a goal line clearance
as well as missed opportunities. The
Cranfield side held out to the final
whistle.
Manager Antony Owen:
“Even though the result went
against us there shouldn’t have
been a spectator who walked away unhappy,
they had witnessed a superb game of
exciting football from both teams.
The youngsters will continue to grow
into the U18 level and we would hope
by the end of October they will be
more than a match for any side”
Apologies to Dale Reece
for missing him off the programme.
Home to Whitworths next Wednesday,
Jim McInally could do with
a few volunteer helpers on
the night to assist him, give him
a ring and ask what you can do to
help. |

u18s come unstuck at Corinthians |
|
|
Rothwell Corinthians 5 - 1 Rothwell
Town
The lads gave an excellent first
half performance and were unlucky
to be 1-0 down at half time after
missing 3 good chances. With both
central midfielders struggling, both
were replaced within a couple of minutes
of the restart.
Corinthians came out of the blocks
far better than ourselves with more
passion, strength and experience and
within 10 minutes we were 4-0 down.
We began to relax and started to battle
back pulling 1 back through
Dale Reece (pictured right)
with a 20 yard chip, Town created
another couple of good chances before
Corinthians added the 5th with the
best goal of the night.
Manager Antony Owen said: "The
lads have now realised after 3 games
that they need to take responsibility
for their own performance especially
in the second half. "
" On to the FA Youth cup Tuesday
next week [at home to Cranfield Utd],
let's hope the town can drum up a
crowd to support the youngsters especially
through the second half and see if
we can duplicate the first teams fine
run. " |

Saturday also saw the long awaited
first competitive match for Rothwell
Town Youth under 14's squad.
For the first match Rothwell travelled
to Bristol to play Jamie Shaw Soccer
International. Both teams created
a few half chances before Ryan
Finnegan took control of
the ball outside of the area, rounded
3 of the JSSI defence and coolly slotted
the ball past the JSSI keeper. Both
teams continued to create and JSSI
equalised through Jordan Scaffe.
A few minutes later Rothwell continued
to press and the ball rebounded to
the edge of the JSSI box and Mason
Thomas drilled the ball into
the bottom corner from 18 yards. The
scoreline remained the same til half
time.
In the second half Rothwell took control
of the match and on another day would
have converted numerous other goal-bound
opportunities, but the JSSI keeper
was in fine form to ensure the score-line
remained 2-1.

Rothwell Town manager Rob

Dunion: "Taking away the well
documented result from last Saturday's

that we are still as a team performing
well below par. I will be looking
for a more polished performance from
the team this week and it's important
