> Match preview: Rothwell Town v Hullbridge Sports


Saturday 30th August : kick off 3pm

F.A. Cup football comes to Cecil Street tomorrow with the visit of Hullbridge Sports in the Preliminary Round.

The winners of this fixture will face Potters Bar or Waltham Abbey away from home on Sat 13th Sept.

Rothwell have a few injury issues with Michael Boyle-Chong out with ankle ligament problems, Andy Brown is out with a back injury, and long-term injury worries Liam McInally and Rashid Koriya are also missing but could both play a part in a friendly arranged for next Tuesday for the youth team. Peter Sneddon is 50/50 with a neck strain but is included in the squad.

Alan Campbell has left the club by mutual consent having decided that he needs more regular first team football after returning from a bad injury last season

Mark Hackett and Mark Burrows return to the squad after missing Mondays draw at Woodford.

> Rothwell Town U18s prepare for season start

 


The under-18s concluded their pre-season programme with a 2-0 away defeat against Rushden & Diamonds 1st Year Scholars on Saturday.

The focus now turns to the opening game of the season on Wednesday (27th Aug) at Cecil Street against S&L Corby - kick off 7.45pm.

The team picked up three injuries who are fighting to get fit in time for Weds. Michael Cirelli (groin), Ben Aidulis (thigh) and Dominic Hamilton (knee). Keenan Rooney (ankle ligaments), Ryan Cherry (knee damage), and Zakk Hill (broken toe) are longer term injury problems.

Three new faces have been invited to training tonight with an eye to bolster numbers in the squad.

Meanwhile, Desborough Town have withdrawn from the league and the home game against Corby Town has been re-arranged to Wed 10th September.

Martin Flannigan will be available for selection after completing his transfer from Bedford.

Slight doubt over Fazil Koriya and Robbie Maddox, but both should be ok. Danny Marlow has fully recovered from an ankle injury.

Paul Rice has been loaned to Long Buckby for a month to sharpen up his match fitness with all parties happy with the situation.

Former Corby Town centre-half Mark Burrows goes straight into the squad after signing from UniBond League side Stamford.

Defender Mark Burrows has joined Rothwell Town on an initial 2 month deal from Stamford. Manager Rob Dunion and his counterpart at Stamford Dougie Keast have agreed to the deal with on-going discussions to be held.

On the injury front, Danny Marlow and Danny Pownell are 50/50 for the opening game of the season - both suffering from foot injuries decision will be made tomorrow.

Players unavailable are: Tom Smith, Ben Greasley, Stewart Marshall, Fazel Koriya, Rashid Koriya, Martin Flannigan, Liam Mcinally.

Liam Boath, Justin McKenzie, Dan Rogers and Micky Tolton (right) have joined Desborough on loan initially for a month.

> Buster returns/Maddox

 


Martin 'Buster' Flannigan will be rejoining the Bones after spending some time with Wellingborough last season and starting off this season at Bedford. A few formalities need to be ironed out but he should be a Rothwell player by next week.

Robbie Maddox has also joined the Bones from local rivals Corby Town. Manager Rob Dunion and Corby manager Graham Drury have agreed a deal prior to the 2008-2009 season.

Rob Dunion said: "These are two very good signings for us just prior to the season starting and certainly adds to the competition for places in the squad."

Rothwell Town manager Rob Dunion was delighted after his side's performance against Kettering Town to tie up prolific striker Kevin Byrne (pictured right), experienced midfielder Danny Marlow, ex-Cameroon u21 international Alexis Malong and experienced centre back Paul Rice.

He said: "I am delighted to have finally got these four to put pen to paper after a patient few weeks. With the season just over a week away its nice to tie up the final few signatures and get down to the business of winning football matches."

Rothwell Town FC are holding a Pre Season Party at The Holiday Inn Corby-Kettering A43 on Saturday 9th Aug 2008, kicking off at 8pm and lasting through until midnight.

The event is being held to help raise extra funds for the club and will be attended by the current squad of players, Rob Dunion’s management team and the RTFC board members.

All supporters are welcome.

Tickets are available for just £5 from Gordon Kyle at Cecil Street on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Tonight's friendly match at Cecil St ended in a 2-2 draw with Kevin Byrne and Chris Difante netting for The Bones.

Corby twice took the lead, through Ollie Burgess and Liam Nicell but Rothwell fought back on both occasions to equalise.

Next up in the pre-season fixtures are Shepshed Dynamo - who visit Cecil Street on Thursday (31st July).

The Bones took their pre-season preparation on the road over the weekend to Cogenhoe (Sat) and Boston Town (Mon).

Saturday's game brought a 2-1 victory for the team, with goals coming from midfielder David Glass - a summer signing from Wellingborough Town, and Fazel Koriya - with his second goal of the pre-season campaign.

On Monday, the Bones travelled to Boston Town and despite another two goals, came away with the taste of defeat as the hosts won the match 3-2. Kevin Byrne and Chris Difante netting the goals for Rothwell.

Next up for Rob Dunion's team are three home friendlies in a row. Coming to Cecil Street are Boldemere St Michaels (Sat 26th), Corby Town (Tues 29th), and Shepshed Dynamo (Thurs 31st).

Also, the draw has been made for the GX (Southern League) Cup 1st Round:

> Dunion's Bones start with a win

 
   

New manager Rob Dunion's opening fixture has resulted in a 3-0 win over Rothwell Corinthians at Cecil Street tonight in the Peter Johnson Memorial Trophy.

The goals came from strikers Fazel Koriya, Justin McKenzie - a new signing from Rugby Town, and returning midfielder Pete Sneddon.

Next up for The Bones in the pre-season fixture list are two away games - Cogenhoe on Sat (19th) followed by Boston Town on Mon (21st).

The team will next be playing at Cecil Street on Sat July 26th against Boldemere St. Michaels.

The club is happy to announce that it will be giving away 200 free tickets for The Bones' forthcoming pre-season friendlies.

The ticket will be a pass which allows Under 16s free entry into all of the pre-season games.

The tickets will be given out at Rothwell Carnival tomorrow (Sat 12th) and there will also be some given out at the Weekly Rovers tournament on Sunday.

In addition to this, you can also pick them up from behind the bar at the ground (Rothwell Town) for the next two weeks.
