Rothwell Town 3 - 1 Willenhall Town
1st half
In a fast and furious half that burst
into life right from the off, Rothwell find themselves 2-1 up going
into the break in tonight's game at Cecil Street, against Willenhall
Town. The deadlock was broken as early on as 2 minutes when Mick
Tolton was pulled down in the box and the Bones were awarded a penalty.
Darren Lynch - in his 2nd appearance for his new club - stepped
up to convert the spotkick and open his account for Rothwell.
Within about a minute of Rothwell
taking the lead, a long ball was launched over the top by Willenhall,
and their winger broke clear to slot home and instantly pull the
score back level at 1-1.
Then, on 30 minutes, a Robert Ritchie-Smith
cross caused the away keeper some trouble as he missed his catch
and saw the ball bounce off his knee to fall to Tolton 5 yards outside
the box, who then capitalised on the error and slotted in to make
it 2-1 to Rothwell at half time.
Second half
The second half saw a smattering of
half chances at both ends although Rothwell had two cleared off
the line. And then, in the 69th minute, from a clearance upfield
by the home defence, Tolton saw the Willenhall goalkeeper again
stranded on the edge of his area, and lobbed in from just inside
their half to make give Rothwell a two goal cushion.
Rothwell continued to pile on the
pressure but didn't add to their lead, Willenhall threw people forward
at the death but the goal wouldn't come and it's The Bones who secure
the 3 points.
The Bones now travel to Solihull Borough
on Saturday (24th Feb).
Rothwell Town Youth
play Whitworths tomorrow night at Cecil Street (k/o 7.45)
