Rothwell Town 1 - 2 Cinderford Town
Prior to this Division One Midlands
clash, Rothwell Town boss Alan Biley had called for his team to
show a positive attitude and put in a performance of character.
He got his wish in the second half as the Bones showed some appetite
for a battle. Unfortunately, so lifeless was their first half showing,
they left themselves too much to do in the second 45 minutes.
One of the principal reasons for that
was the inept display of referee Mr Field who handed out six yellow
cards but still missed countless other niggly fouls as Cinderford,
literally, got pushy. However, not even Mr Field could be blamed
for the Rothwell defending that gifted the visitors their two first-half
goals.
On 10 minutes the home side stood
and watched as Greg Lewis scuffed home from a corner. Nine minutes
later, Ben Gascoyne was left unmarked at the far post and his downward
header was diverted into his own net by Michael Boyle-Chong. Despite
their poor display, Rothwell could still have been level at the
break but Foresters keeper Matt Bath produced superb saves to deny
Ricky Miller and Neil Lazarus.
However, they got their goal on 50
minutes, Boyle-Chong drilling home from 20 yards. the bar denied
Darren Lynch an equaliser on the hour, and Bath's third brilliant
save of the night kept out Joe Cossey. that was the highlight though.
After that, it was anything but the beautiful game.
