Rothwell Town 1 - 1 Romulus

GOOD things come to those who wait, so the advert for popular Irish beer tells us.

And Ben Greasley's last-gasp equaliser for Rothwell Town in this BGB Southern League Division One Midlands game had a touch of
the pure genius about it.

After all, most strikers would do well to produce a flashing overhead kick into the top corner in a crowded area, let alone a big centre-half.

It was no more than the Bones deserved, though, as they ended their three-game losing run and also broke a three-game scoring drought in the process.

They actually found the net in the first half as Paul Rice's accurate header left the keeper standing.

Unfortunately for the Bones man, it was his own keeper Tom Smith he beat, the ball bouncing in off the underside bar almost in slow motion – as own-goals tend to be – after he beat Roms striker Leon Mitchell to Lei Brown's 13th-minute cross.

Brown, Mitchell and his strike partner Aaron Daniels were a constant thorn in the side of the home defence throughout the first half and the Roms dominated possession.

But their crosses and final balls were poor, frequently ending up in the trees behind Smith's goal.

And when they did get an effort in on goal they found Smith and Greasley, in particular, in strong form.

Rothwell needed almost an hour to get a shot in on goal but once they did, they began to take a firmer footing in the match.

With Mitchell and Daniels helpfully taken off by the Romulus manager, the pressure was eased on the Bones' defence and they could concentrate on attack.

Jon Stead and Michael Boyle-Chong both went close with efforts while Robbie Richie-Smith saw another shot parried.

Richie-Smith and Steve Purton were a regular threat down the flanks but as 90 minutes ticked by, it looked as if they would again end the day pointless.

But then, in the 92nd minute, Richie-Smith's corner was met in spectacular style by Greasley in the middle of a crowded area and Rothwell had their reward.
