Dunstable Town 1-1 Rothwell Town

British Gas Business League Division One Midlands

Saturday 31st March - k/o 3pm

IAN JACKSON thought his Rothwell Town side had done enough to win this game at Dunstable Town – but in the end they had to settle for a point. Bones manager Jackson said: "I'm not really happy with just a point because we gave away a poor goal.

"We played some great football in the first half – as good as it gets really. We looked close to untouchable.

"But we didn't take the chances we had to win the game.

"Having said that, all the points we get now are bonuses after the run we went on, and hopefully we are safe now.

"The lads are starting to relax and getting the points they deserve. I'm pleased for them."

The game was dominated by the wind from the start, but Rothwell managed to put on early pressure through Chris Difante and Jon Stead, who both had good chances to put the visitors in front.

However, it was Dunstable who took the lead, albeit against the run of play. Rothwell keeper Tom Smith attempted to punch a mediocre cross from the left – but missed it by miles.

The ball feel kindly to Jonathan Barnett at the far post and he hammered it home into an empty net.

To their credit, the Bones' heads did not go down and they rallied with some excellent play from Adam Cunnington and Fazel Koriya.

It eventually paid off on 34 minutes when referee Mr Rathbone allowed play to continue following a foul on Difante.

The ball was eventually put through to Liam McInally, who slipped it past an advancing Paul Taylor in goal – his first goal for the club.

After the break, the swirling wind got stronger and play deteriorated somewhat – but still both sides managed to carve out chances.

Chris Marsh and Alan Flood worked hard for the hosts but could not find a way past the solid Rothwell defence, while Cunnington continued to put pressure on the hosts.

But in the end the weather won and both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Rothwell now face three games at Cecil Street, starting with Chasetown tomorrow evening.
