Rothwell
Town 0 - 3 Leamington
British Gas Business
League Division One Midlands
Tuesday 8th April 2008
There was an eerie sense of history repeating
for Rothwell Town in this BGB Southern League Division One Midlands
game.
Just like in the errea Cup meeting earlier
in the season, the Bones pushed in-form Leamington all the way and
deserved better.
But now, as then, the Brakes found their goal
touch in the final quarter to take the spoils.
Things began badly for Rothwell as Ryan Parisi
smashed home the opener off the underside of the bar after only
five minutes.
The title chasers were the better side for
the rest of the first half except for a 13th-minute Jon Stead cross-shot
that flew just wide.
Home keeper Tom Smith made three fine saves and Steve Purton cleared
a Guy Sanders header off the line.
To prove it was no fluke the Bones
man repeated the trick but Parisi couldn't do an action replay of
his first-half moment, instead firing wide.
And Leamington, it seemed, couldn't
repeat their first-half display as after the break Rothwell not
only took the game to the high-flying visitors but began to control
things.
But when the chance came to turn dominance
into goals, the Bones – and Chris Difante – couldn't
take it.
The striker was desperately unlucky as his
superb first-time volley from Adam Cunnington's cross flew past
the keeper but hit the outside of the post.
Sixty seconds later Difante beat the offside
trap to go clean through, only to swing wildly at the ball and miss
it completely, Stead sending the follow-up inches wide.
Top sides don't tend to give second chances.
But it was still against the run of play when Justin Marshall was
left unmarked to head Leamington's second on 71 minutes.
It was harsh on the Bones and the night got
harsher still when a loose ball in the box fell to James Husband
and he lashed in the third.

Telegraph.
