Woodford
United 0 - 2 Rothwell Town
British Gas Business
League Division One Midlands
Monday 14th April 2008
Rothewell Town's local pride was restored
with this deserved victory over County neighbours Woodford United
in the BGB Southern League. And the win moves Ian Jackson's Bones
to within a point of Woodford in the Division One Midlands table.
The Bones completely dominated the game and
at times played some superb possession football which they succeeded
in converting into goalscoring chances.
And if it had not been for half a
dozen fine saves from home keeper David Thornton the scoreline would
have reflected that overwhelming dominance.
However, Thornton was beaten as early
as the second minute but was saved be the woodwork as Steve Purton's
powerful shot came back off the upright.
And he could nothing to prevent the
opening goal on 11 minutes when Mick Tolton's shot on the turn on
the edge of the box flew into the far corner of the net.
Rothwell continued to press forward and there
were opportunities for Adam Cunnington, Michael Boyle-Chong and
Purton again.
Woodford's only shot on target came on the
half-hour mark when Carl Standen fired narrowly wide.
The second Bones goal arrived on 56 minutes
when a free-kick by the influential Jonny Bewers was neatly flicked
in by Ben Greasley to give the keeper no chance.
Late in the game Bones keeper Tom
Smith was called upon to make a couple of saves.
But the Bones were not really under pressure
at any point.
They travel to Malvern this weekend before
finishing off their season at home to Bedworth United on April 26.

Telegraph.
