Rothwell Town 1 - 0 Wivenhoe

Rothwell Town completed their first double of the season over Wivenhoe - and they thoroughly deserved it. They completely dominated the first half as Wivenhoe failed to make an impression. Sean Allen, standing in for Tom Smith in goal, did not have a touch to make in the opening ten minutes. By contrast, Rothwell were a constant threat and Oliver Sanders pulled off a fantastic point-blank save from a Michael Boyle-Chong effort.

Five minutes later, Chris Difante made a good run before finishing with a superb cross to Jusin Jenkins - but his diving header was inches wide of the post. Both Steve Towers and Jenkins saw further opportunities to score before the break - Jenking having a shot tipped onto the bar by Sanders. Just before the stroke of half-time, Paul Rice was called upon to clear off the line, bringing about the visitors' first corner kick.

Wivenhoe had more of the play in the second half but delivered no football, instead relying on the long hopeful balls over the top. However, the home defence held firm against increasing pressure and Allen made a good save to push a header from Sean Hiller round the post for a corner. The deciding goal finally came on 79 miunutes, after Jenkins, Towers, and Maddox had all gone close.

A free-kick out on the left was put into the six-yard box by Towers. This was met with a flying header from Bones skipper Stuart Spencer which hit the post, rebounded out and was forced over the line by Jenkins. In the final ten minutes the hosts had further chances to make the result safe, but Towers saw a long-range effort go just wide and Jenkins cleared off his own line in the fifth minute of added time.

The Bones no face away opposition for two consecutive Saturdays in the league to higher opposition. But first they must face local rivals Corby Town on Tuesday.
