- Brave Bones go out fighting -

Rothwell Town 1 Rushden & Diamonds 2

Substitute Cornell Haughton, a former Diamonds trainee, scored against his old club last night but it was not quite enough to progress to the Maunsell Cup final. Heavy rain throughout created a sodden Cecil St pitch, on which Rothwell showed good account of themselves against higher opposition.

The Bones started brightly, with efforts from Steve Towers and Mark Hackett before Diamonds took the lead on 30mins through Jason Taylor. Shortly after half-time it was 2-0 as Ashley Nicholls doubled the visitor's lead but Rothwell pushed on. Michael Boyle-Chong had an effort disallowed for offside, while Stuart Spencer, Luke Dawkins and Cornell Haughton went close.

Rothwell found the back of the net - through Haughton following up a parry - with two minutes remaining, but it was to be Diamonds who'll meet Peterborough United in the final.
