Dartford
0 -1 Rothwell Town
Rothwell Town continued their unbeaten
run in 2006 with an impressive win over fifth-placed Dartford. Manager
Dave Williams is delighted with his side's efforts so far this year.
He said: "It was an excellent performance and we deserved to
win. We were hit in the week with Chris Difante being recalled to
Kettering and Justin Jenkins was on a one-match suspension. So we
called in Andy Almond and he scored. What more can you ask for?
We're going in the right direction now and are only four points
off the play-offs - so we will just have to keep working hard and
see what happens."
Rothwell were dominant from the start
with Mickey Tolton, Robbie Maddox and Almond all having chances
to put the visitors in the lead. The Bones defence was outstanding
against a team who have scored 46 goals so far this season - so
much so that Sean Allen only had one critical save to make in the
whole 90 minutes.
That came on 40 minutes when he tipped
a powerful on-target shot by Ryan Hayes onto the bar and out to
safety. The Rothwell goall came seven minutes after the break and
was no surprise. Tolton put in a down-the-line pass over the home
defence to Maddox out on the right. He, in turn, carried the ball
towards the goal before putting in a lobbed dross which was headed
home by Almond from close range.
The same player missed a golden opportunity
five minutes later to put the game out of reach but dragged his
shot wide. Further chances fell to Steve Towers and Tolton while
Dartford were completely pinned back in their own half.
This was a splendid win for the Bones,
particularly as they were without a couple of key players, and if
they can continue to play like this they will certainly start to
climb up the table.
