Potters
Bar 0 - 0 Rothwell Town
With Justin Jenkins being shown a
straight red card after 65 minutes, in the end Rothwell Town were
pleased to come back from Potters Bar with a point. And even more
so because other results meant that they stay in the same position
and can still make the play-offs.
Jenkins was dismissed for retaliation,
following an incident in which he was crudely tackled by Sam Ledger.
No action was taken by Mr Tohver and the ball was cleared upfield.
Jenkins 'had words' with Ledger, who then squared up threateningly
to the striker and he pushed him away. So off he went. To be fair
to Jenkins, up until that point he had been tugged, held, elbowed
and fouled repeatedly with no action taken. That said, there is
no excuse for retaliating.
The rest of the game was a truly boring
affair. Both sides' defences were on top and there was very little
attacking play. The Parkfield surface was bumpy and slick on top
which made the passing game very difficult. The Scholars hoofed
the ball in the air at the earliest opportunity. The only home player
who made an effort to play the ball on the grass was former Rushden
& Diamonds man Daniel Talbot, whose dad Brian watched from the
stands.
The hosts' best chance fell to Andy
Aransibia on 56 minutes. But under pressure from Paul Rice, he hit
a Richard Howard cross over the bar from close range. The Bones
had a couple of good chances, first when Stuart Spencer fired just
wide of the target from close in. Shortly afterwards, Robbie Maddox
picked up a loose rebound of a Michael Boyle-Chong effort, but Richard
Haywood pulled off a magnificent flying save to keep the deadlock
intact.
