Rothwell Town 0 - 0 Barton Rovers

Rothwell Town's chances of a play-off place have all but disappeared after this disappointing result against relegation-threatened Barton Rovers. their hopes now depend on several other results against the leagues two top teams, this was an 'after the Lord Mayor's show' effort from Rothwell.

Only four outfield players - defenders Andy Brown, Kevin Brooks, Martin Flannigan and Paul Rice - came away with any credit, along with Tom Smith who made some good saves in the second half. The first was dire to watch and the action amounted to one corner for the Rovers and one on-target effort for each side. Rothwell's came from a Jamie Wright free-kick in the 35th minute but this was easily collected by Jim Gregory. The secondhalf started with a little more promise, with Justin Jenkins having a goal-bound effort cleared off the line after two minutes.

And this was followed by the home side's first corner of the game, which saw Joe Cossey fire over the top of the Rothwell goal. On 53 minutes Brooks was on-hand to clear off the line for a Rovers corner. But the whole game was littered with players picking the wrong options and putting passes willy nilly all over the place.

On the hour, Michael Boyle-Chong saw a shot saved by Gregory in the visiting goal, and he also made a good save of a Robbie Maddox header. With 15 minutes to go, Smith again pulled off an impressive save to keep the scores level. Both sides forced corners in injury time but neither came close to breaking the deadlock.
