Berkhamsted Town 2 - 2 Rothwell Town
Rothwell Town's display
was a 100 per cent improvement on last Saturday's efforts - but
they had to settle for a draw despite leading twice against a side
struggling at the bottom and desperate for points.
An early move involving
Martin Flannigan and Michael Boyle-Chong led to a bad miss at the
far post as Robbie Maddox missed an open goal. Justin Jenkins was
inches over with a 45-yard lob which had Sam Masurek beaten. But
on 11 minutes Rothwell broke again and when Boyle-Chong hit the
bar, first to react to the rebound was Michael Tolton who slotted
home from 10 yards.
At the other end Jean-paul
Marna fired over from eight yards when he should have done better
but Masurek made a great save from Flannigan's diving header. The
Bones were punished for failing to clear the danger and Darren Franklin
poked home a close-range equaliser. However Masurek then took out
Boyle-Chong and Jenkins made no mistake from the spot.
Rothwell had a lucky
escape when Marna's ball across goal was missed by two players.
Masurek was forced off after a 50-50 challenge with Jenkins which
brought an undeserved yellow card. But with six minutes left Franklin
powered home a shot from 20 yards giving Tom Smith no chance.
The Bones play their
final home game of the season on Saturday, against Wingate &
Finchley.
