Rothwell Town 2 - 2 Enfield Town
With just 16 minutes
of normal time left on the clock, a depleted Rothwell Town side
were 2-0 down against second-placed Enfield Town. Then up stepped
substitute Cornell Haughton. The visitors had just missed a golden
opportunity to put in a third goal and the game out of the Bones'
reach. Tom Smith's clearance was flicked on by Justin Jenkins to
the feet of the young reserve striker. He turned, saw Mark Cousins
coming out towards him and with a deft touch chipped the ball over
him and into the empty net.
This proved to be
a pivotal point in the game as it lifted Rothwell and they pushed
forward with more confidence. Jenkins went very close with a shot
on 80 minutes. but he redeemed himself in the second minute of stoppage-time
when he scored the equaliser with a header at the near post following
a Jamie Wright free-kick out on the right.
The Bones were not
in the game for the first hour - although it took a dubious penalty
decision for Enfield to take the lead when Smith was harshly adjudged
to have tripped Bryan Hammatt. Skiper Rudi Hall slotted home the
spot-kcik to hand the visitors a deserved lead. They doubled their
advantage in the 55th minute when a defensive error allowed Hammatt
to fire home from close range. At this pont The Bones looked beaten.
But in the end they pulled off a magnificent comeback with Haughton's
goal turning the game in their favour and Jenkins stealing a draw
at the death.
This draw means that
Rothwell remain unbeaten against the top two sides in the league
and they should be brimming with confidence for Saturday's game
against Barton Rovers at Cecil Street.
