Rothwell Town 0 -2 Wingate & Finchley
Beaten by a team six
places below them in the league was a disappointing way for Rothwell's
home season to end. At times, it looked as though some of the home
players thought the season had already finished, with passes going
astray and balls hit high and hopeful. The Bones did start quite
well, however, and matched Wingate & Finchley for the opening
20 minutes.
Cornell Haughton squandered
a golden opportunity to put the hosts ahead but put an easy chance
over the bar. And Michael Boyle-Chong and Justin Jenkins were also
guilty of spurning good scoring opportunities. The Bones were punished
for their lack of fire power just before the hour. Adam Stolerman
latched onto a long goal-kick for the visitors before firing home.
They doubled their advantage 11 minutes later. A good move down
the right ended with Danny Berg firing home from an acute angle.
Robbie Maddox and
Boyle-Chong had chances to reduce the arrears but Wingate eventually
ran out deserved winners. Rothwell play their final game of the
season next Saturday away at Great Wakering. Let's hope they can
lift themselves from this lacklustre defeat to finish the season
with a win.
