Rothwell Town 1 - 1 Evesham United

The Bones opened their league campaign this afternoon with an eventful 1-1 draw against Evesham United. With scores level at 0-0 half-time, Rothwell were straight off the blocks for the 2nd half and were rewarded in the 47th minute when Chris Difante went on a great run and cut the ball back for Justin Jenkins to fire home and put The Bones 1-0 up.

Rothwell goalkeeper Tom Smith was stretchered off injured, which meant that scorer Jenkins had to pull on the gloves and take over in goal. What followed in injury time of the game will have the fans talking into the night, as two minutes into stoppages Rothwell put the ball into touch for a home player down injured.

From the resulting throw-in, Evesham declined to give the ball back to the home side and instead launched an attack on goal which resulted in a controversial equaliser. Following the melee this caused, Stuart Spencer was sent off and the Evesham keeper - who ran the length of the pitch to get involved - escaped, surprisingly, with just a yellow card.

Rothwell Town play away at Leighton Town on Tuesday.
