- Bones concede late again as Croydon progress -

Rothwell Town 0 - 1 Croydon Athletic

Rothwell bowed out of the FA Trophy last night as lightning struck twice in the form of another last minute Croydon Athletic goal. In a repeat of Saturday, the Bones put in a creditable performance but it was the Ryman League One side who got the all-important decider as extra-time loomed - through a scuffed Barry Stevens shot which hit the inside of the far post and trickled over the line.

Croydon had a goal disallowed in the 6th minute for a foul on keeper Tom Smith, but the team pushed on and Michael Boyle-Chong shot just wide of the target. Early in the 2nd half, the Bones drew a good save out of Luke Garrard from a free-kick from the right. Then in the 52nd minute, Boyle-Chong was inches away from the top corner with a 25-yarder.

Tom Smith pulled off two super saves from Joe Sheerin and Garrard stopped another attempt from Boyle-Chong. The tie opened up, with some good end-to-end attacking football as both teams chased the result. But as extra-time looked inevitable, Croydon snatched the vital goal and the result. Now Rothwell must lift themselves to face Barking & East Ham at home in the league on Saturday (19th Nov) - k/o 3pm.
