Rothwell Town 1 - 0 Leighton
Teenager Ricky Miller was instrumental
in this smash-and-grab victory for Rothwell Town over struggling
Leighton Town. In the 74th minute, following a good solo run down
the left, he hammered the ball past the diving Andy Brown into the
far corner of the net.
Up to this point, the Bones had struggled
to hang on in a game where - especially in the first half - they
were generally out-played and only had about 20 per cent of the
possession. Thankfully for Rothwell, the visitors could not get
the ball in the net either. On the positive side, the game included
a good debut appearance by former Northampton Town trainee Jordan
Williams who came in for the injured Jonny Bewers after half an
hour. Debutant keeper Ian Baker had to make one important save for
the hosts in the first half when he clawed Peter Clifford's high
goal-boand shot out from under the bar.
The game was then held up for 10 minutes
while referee Mr Cross was replaced by Mr Knowles due to a pulled
hamstring. Rothwell started brighter after the break and Michael
Boyle-Chong fired the ball just inches wide of the target after
three minutes. Justin Jenkins then hit the post with a headed effory
which rolled along the line before eventually being cleared to safety
by a Leighton defender. On the hour Chris Difante shot wide of the
target while three minutes later Baker pulled off another quality
save to deny Leighton.
With 16 minutes to go, the vital winning
goal came. And, although Leighton piled on the pressure for the
remainder of the game, the Bones managed to cling on for a narrow
victory which leaves them 14th in the table.
