Bishops Cleeve 2 - 3 Rothwell Town

Rothwell Town today held on for the victory at Bishops Cleeve, having been 3-0 up by just after half time.

The Bones started well and had a very good first half. Justin Jenkins had a superb shot saved by the home keeper within the first 10 minutes, and moments later crashed another against the crossbar. The breakthrough however came on 25 minutes when Ricky Miller was brought down in the penalty area and Chris Difante slotted away the spotkick. On 36 minutes a through ball from Flannigan found the feet of Jenkins who drove a low shot from 20 yards into the corner of the net to make it 2-0 to Rothwell going into the break.

Nine minutes into the second half, Rothwell put themselves in a strong position by scoring a third goal through Ricky Miller. But then almost from the kick off, Bishops Cleeve clawed themselves back into the game by pulling a a goal back. Rothwell then lost Paul Rice through injury and were stretched at the back. With Flannigan moving back to slot into defence the midfield was also lost. As a result, Rothwell were over-ran and the home side bundled a second goal in on 85 minutes but Rothwell held on to secure the three points.

The Bones now make the short journey up the A6 to play Rushden & Diamonds on Tues 6th Feb in the Hillier Senior Cup semi final. This will be played on their main stadium pitch, 7.45pm kick off.
