At last Rothwell Town
got what they deserved from a battling away performance
– a victory and three vital points.
Their football was not as pretty as Sudbury's.
But their workrate and enthusiasm more than made
up for that.
It took only four minutes for the Bones to take
the lead.
A strong run down the right by Dale Linton finished
when he hit a low, powerful cross.
It evaded all the home defenders and home keeper
Darren Gould could only look on as it hit the
inside of the post and nestled in the back of
the net.
Both Linton and Fazell Koriya gave the home side
lots of problems with their runs down the right
and left.
And with Shaun Goodall working hard in the middle,
the hosts struggled at times to keep the Bones
at bay.
At the other end, Luke Hammond was an influential
player for the hosts, with Piers Wickson also
looking dangerous on occasions.
The game really opened up in the final 15 minutes
with the Bones creating several chances to score,
including Simon Underwood heading onto the bar.
They finally got the second goal they deserved
with five minutes left on the clock.
Michael Boyle-Chong pounced on a defensive mix-up
between Gould and Adrian Pettigrew and fired into
an empty net to send the Rothwell players and
fans wild.
Sudbury managed a consolation in a lengthy 11
minutes of added time, when good work by Alex
Bussons set up Gareth Reeve to fire home.
But the Bones held on to record a fine away win,
setting them up nicely for tomorrow night's game
against Bromsgrove Rovers at Cecil Street. |
