Fazel Koriya was the
last-action hero for Rothwell Town as they snatched
a point from this BGB Southern League League Division
One Midlands game.
With 90 minutes up, Bones substitute Dale Linton
launched one last attack witha determined run
down the left. His low cross was missed by everyone
in the centre and Koriya was able to bundle the
ball in at the far post.
In truth, the goal and the point were no more
than Rothwell deserved.
After a dominant first half display in which
they should have had more than Kevin Byrne's 15th-minute
header to show for their efforts they then found
themselves trailing with an hour gone.
Matthew Clarke netted Arlesey Town's equaliser
30 seconds after the break when firing home unmarked
from a corner.
Their second was equally as simple as Jamie Osborne
engineered space with a lovely piece of skill
on the right and his low cross left Richard Pringle
with a tap-in. It might have been different for
the Bones had they - and Shaun Goodall in particular
- not left their shooting boots in the dressing-room.
Three times in the first half alone Goodall got
through only to shoot straight at the keeper or
fire wide. He continued in the same vein in the
second half whjile both Michael Boyle-Chong and
Martin Flannigan also saw efforts go close.
However, that was not to say that Arlesey didn't
have their moments, far from it. Indeed the Bones
were saved by the woodwork three times.
The first two occasions came on the half-hour
mark when Osborne thumped the post with a superb
volley and Pringle's follow-up shot crashed off
the bar with keeper Alex Malong a mere spectator.
In the second half Craig Armstrong hit the bar
with a 30-yard free-kick.
Both Pringle and Osborne had further chances
to seal it for Arlesey. But, like Rothwell in
the first half, they ultimately paid the price
for not taking their chances as Koriya's late
show ensured a share of the spoils.
