Rothwell Town were
unlucky to lose this BGB Southern League Division
One Midlands encounter – even though the
scoreline suggested otherwise. They battled hard
and played some good football in patches but didn't
get the run of the ball.
The home side took the lead on 15 minutes when
a long ball over the top was fired home by Glenn
Hawkins.
Rothwell fought back but were out of luck –
none more than Simon Underwood who saw two 39th-minute
efforts hit first the post and then the underside
of the bar without going in.
Youth team player Kyle Locklin was then unlucky
to twice be denied by fine saves from home keeper
Tom Vincent.
The Bones were on top as the first half ended
and in the second they continued to press for
an equaliuser.
But in the 54th minute they were hit with a sucker-punch
as Nathan Graham scored the Ducks' second amid
loud claims of handball from the Bones defence.
Just past the hour Kevin Byrne spurned a great
chance for the Bones when he volleyed over from
six yards completely unmarked.
It proved to be Rothwell's last real chance and
they spent the final 15 minutes defending with
Martin Flannigan to the fore to keep the home
side out.
The Bones will hope for better luck at home to
Arlesey Town tomorrow. |
