Rothwell Town had
to settle for a point from this BGB southern League
Division One Midlands game after Bromsgrove Rovers
struck late on to earn a share of the spoils.
The Bones scored two cracking goals – but
also conceded two shockers,
neither of which keeper Alex Malong will recall
with any fondness.
Rothwell had Bobby White making his debut and
Robbie Maddox back from Stamford and both men's
experience undoubtedly helped across the night.
However, neither they nor any of the Bones defence,
started with any distinction as Graham Deakin's
third-minute free-kick was allowed to float past
everyone for the softest of opening goals.
Rothwell's equaliser on 15 minutes was a beauty.
Faizal Koriya produced a fine run and subtle
pass from the right for Michael Boyle-Chong to
score with an equally deft finish.
Dan Rodgers then forced a good save from Greens
keeper Chris Kiely before half-time.
However, he had better luck on 57 minutes as
he put Bones ahead with a superb diving header
from Koriya's cross.
But just as they looked set for their first back-to-back
league wins of the season, they conceded an almost
identical goal to the first.
Deakin swung over another hopeful free-kick from
the right which Malong again mis-judged and allowed
the ball to drop over him and into the net.
