Rothwell Town produced
their best performance of the season so far with
this victory over a Marlow side sitting just below
the play-off spots in seventh place.
The team played for each other and with plenty of heart and confidence which bodes well for the second half of the season.
Bones boss Rob Dunion said: "We had to start winning
our home games instead of talking about hard-luck
stories.
"The penny has dropped now to the players who don't want to be in a relegation battle.
"I set the team out to win rather than being defensive and it worked.
"Everybody played to their level, we took our chances and defended well. It was a much-needed win."
Rothwell started well and, even though they kicked off up the slope against a strong wind and on a sticky surface, their fast tempo caught the visitors on the back foot.
They created several chances in the opening 15 minutes. dale Linton and Shaun Goodall, together with the ever-running Kevin Byrne, brought saves from keeper Kieran Drake.
The opening goal on the 18th minute was a beauty.
Man-of-the-match Mark Hackett made a 50-yard run down the right beating several opponents on the way then crossing a pinpoint pass to Goodall who spun and shot from the edge of the box into the far corner of the net, giving Drake no chance.
Marlow fought hard to get back on terms with John Case and Aaron Couch both looking a threat.
But the home defence held firm, helped by the hard-working midfield.
This was also assisted by a terrific performance from youth-teamer Kyle Locklin who is starting to look a very good player.
The second half saw Marlow continue to press for
an equaliser but the Bones went 2-0 up in the
67th minute with another superb goal.
David Glass took a free-kick 35 yards out on the right. Paul Rice - on his return as a half-time substitute for injured skipper Martin Flannigan - ran across the keeper but ducked under the ball and it flew into the top corner at the far post.
With just seven minutes to go Glass was unlucky with another set-piece from the other side. His effort went inches over the bar onto the roof of the net.
All of the players can be proud of this performance as everyone contributed to an entertaining game.
They visit Soham Town tomorrow and then are back at Cecil Street on Friday against high-flying Nuneaton Town.
