Rob Dunion felt that
his Rothwell Town side had done enough to take
away a point until they conceded a late winner.
The only goal on 88 minutes left the Bones beaten
but Dunion was encouraged by the display.
He said: "Overall there wasn't a problem
because we played very well. We didn't deserve
to win it. But we held them and it's disappointing
to get nothing.
"These things happen in football and we
should have taken something from a much better
performance."
The game was heading for a 0-0 draw until Romulus
stole the points.
Jermain Clarke, who only signed from Bromsgrove
Rovers two days earlier, came on as an 85th-minute
substitute and slotted the ball past advancing
keeper Alex Malong following a move down the middle
by Tom Willmore and Tyrone Fagan.
That robbed Rothwell of at least a point as for
the second successive game they were beaten in
the last two minutes.
The first half was a poor display with few chances
except for Malong's point-blank save from Fagan
while David Glass saw a goalbound shot deflected
to safety and Michael Boyle-Chong's long-range
effort went wide.
The Bones were unlucky when skipper Martin Flannigan
was forced off at half-time with a recurrence
of his thigh injury which also meant a change
of formation.
Boyle-Chong spurned another golden opportunity
when clean through as Matt Harris bravely saved
at his feet.
The Roms gradually came more into the game but
Rothwell's defence were holding firm with Simon
Underwood having a good game.
After Clarke's goal Rothwell pressed but, even
with four minutes added on, they failed to come
back.
The Bones are due to be at home to Bromsgrove
tomorrow – although the game is already
in doubt. |
