Rothwell Town were
forced to field a depleted side for this BGB Southern
League Division One Midlands game which was also
their first visit to Soham Town Rangers.
In just the third minute, stand-in goalkeeper Shaun Allen pulled off a good save from point-blank range to deny Scott Carter.
For the rest of the opening 20 minutes, the Bones were over-run by a fast-moving home side and a big score against them looked on the cards.
But, eventually, they pulled themselves together and came more into the game.
However, that was not before Rangers had taken the lead on 14 minutes when, following several blocked shots, Scott Johnson fired home via a severve deflection.
On 33 minutes, Rothwell debutant Mbiyeye Medine put in powerful shot from 30 yards which went just over as he started to adapt to the pace of the game.
However, play then became scrappy and continued in that vein for the rest of the half.
After the break, Rothwell were certainly more in it and put together several attacks but they came to nothing.
Their best chance came in the 70th minute when David Glass' free-kick was superbly saved by Lee Jordan.
The final five minutes were then all Rothwell as they searched for an equaliser but to no avail.
However, they looked to have decent claims for a late penalty when substitute Kyle Locklin was bundled over in the box but the referee waved away the appeals. |
